Best Things To Do in Santorini

Lazing around and admiring the stunning view are hands down my favourite Santorini activities. But I know some of you like to be a little more active, so here are the most popular activities in Santorini.

Blue Domes of Oia: Everybody must go at least once to the blue domes in Oia, the most popular of all things to see in Santorini. They can be a little tricky to find, but that’s half the fun.

Hike from Fira to Oia: OK this is a little more strenuous than watching the dazzling views from a deck chair, but this is one of the top things to do in Santorini. The hike will take you about half a day, for the best views in Santorini from every conceivable angle.

Caldera Boat Cruise: There is a multitude of tour options, with the best one being the sunset dinner cruise around the caldera. Every hotel will offer you a cruise because they are hands down the most popular Santorini tours.

Explore the Paths and Alleyways of Fira & Oia: Actually, you can do this in any of the caldera towns, for some breathtaking views whilst exploring a labyrinth of small alleyways. Be prepared to climb many stairs.

Dinner with a View: There is nothing quite like dining atop the caldera rim, with one of the best views on the planet. There are so many options to choose from, especially in Fira.

Watch the Sunset in Fira or Oia: The best views in Santorini can be found all the way along the caldera from Fira to Oia. There are so many perfect places in these towns to watch a perfect sunset.

Day Trips from Santorini

There are plenty of Santorini day tours available to explore the entire island, along with its amazing history dating back to Roman times.

  • Beaches: Loads of great beaches are scattered all around Santorini Island. They are mostly on the “other” side of the island from the Caldera. You can catch a public bus to most of them, hire a car, or take a tour.
  • Winery Tour: Santorini is famous for its wonderful scenic wineries, and most day tours include optional wine tasting stops.

Where to Stay in Santorini

Fira and Oia are the most popular places to stay in Santorini, mainly because they have the highest number of accommodation and restaurants, and they are the best places to catch the sunset.

Cheap Hotel in Santorini

If you want to enjoy the spectacular sunsets at Oia but don’t want to pay the premium price for accommodation, then choose the Agnadi Villa. You can get great sea views from the hotel, or do a 1km walk down to the village of Oia.

Mid Priced Hotel

The Kavalari Hotel is located in the center Fira, which happens to be one of the best places to see the Santorini sunset. This hotel is set back from the cliff edge, which is good because it does not attract a premium price tag.

Affordable Luxury

Santorini can be incredibly expensive if you want a great view facing the caldera. We decided to pay for an expensive room for 3 nights in Fira, on the edge of the cliff facing the sunset. It was a once in a lifetime, honeymoon worthy experience.

Check out the Asma Suites for the best place to stay in Santorini. We rate it 10 out of 10 in every way.

Accommodation Deals in Santorini

It pays to look for deals on Santorini. It’s possible to find amazing deals on luxury hotels worth thousands of dollars per night, for a fraction of the normal cost. This deals finder is a great place to start. Booking.com
